WHO WE ARE

Producing great works since 1978

Red Octopus Theatre has been in Newport, Oregon offering the central coast the best in comedy, drama, classics, musicals and original theatre for over thirty years.

The spark of creation came when four actors from San Francisco, heading north, joined forces with local actors in 1978. Over the years, the group has expanded and included hundreds of talented artists and performers.

Performances, over the years, were held in a variety of locations in Lincoln County: From local barns, to the Visitor Center of Oregon State University’s Hatfield Marine Science Center and even the former Naterlin Center (now Newport’s City Hall). Our current home is in the Newport Performing Arts Center, built in Nye Beach in 1988.

We produce at least two shows per year and explore new theatrical works with our ongoing “Original Scripts” workshops. You can explore our production history here.
